Keen readers of Techboard will know by now that our Sydney correspondent, Robin Block has moved on and is heading home to sunny London. While we will miss the interviews done by Robin, we have been joined by his colleague from MitchelLake, Matthew Parker. Matthew has already been hard at work conducting interviews which will start to hit the press next week. We have been endeavouring to bring you at least one interview a week and as a fabulous stop gap, Matthew and Luke Howes, CEO of Proviso have agreed to Techboard republishing Matt’s great interview of Luke which was first published on MitchelLake’s site. Dr Toby Heap is a scientist turned entrepreneur. In 2015 he co-founded H2 Ventures — an Australian start-up accelerator. Toby is also a member of Techboard’s Panel of Experts for New South Wales.  H2 Ventures has worked with a number of successful FinTechs including HashChing and Equitise. With their newest cohort of teams, H2 Ventures has waded into the world of data and AI. Techboard Company Traction Report October 2017

Every month after publishing the Techboard Ranking we publish “The Month in Australian Startup and Tech: Company Traction Report”. The Report contains all the milestones, Funding outcomes and News on Australian startups and young technology companies that we collect when doing our monthly ranking.

  • This month we have news mentions, milestones and Funding events for 267 Australian startups and tech companies. The companies are listed in the order in which they appeared in the October Techboard Ranking.
  • Since last month we’ve added a further 100+ companies – we’re now profiling 1,814 Australian companies.
  • Among other metrics, we captured 750 press mentions (globally) of Australian companies, 226 milestones, 46 funding milestones, over 28,000 tweets and 11,000 Facebook posts, over 300 iTunes apps and 250 Google Play apps, and employee counts at 1,170 companies.
  • Five of the top ten companies are ASX listed. 94 (or 5%) of our total companies are ASX listed. The top performing (share price wise) ASX company in October was Wangle Technologies, up 80%.
  • Four acquisitions during the month: REALas (ANZ Bank), Parkhound (Spacer), HomeHello (UrbanYou) and CreditorWatch (InfoTrack).

  • Among other metrics, we captured 750 press mentions (globally) of Australian companies, 226 milestones, 46 funding milestones, over 28,000 tweets and 11,000 Facebook posts, over 300 iTunes apps and 250 Google Play apps, and employee counts at 1,170 companies.

Our friends at eGroup are hosting Boston based Venture Capitalist John Pearce, co-founder of underscore.vc at their upcoming forum on 14 November 2017. John will be sharing his journey from Perth Boy to Boston VC.

The Egroup Committee thought they should capitalise on John’s visit (pun intended) to provide the opportunity for 3 selected startups to pitch their company and get great feedback from John and also from Egroup members. John and his fund are particularly interested in startups in Cloud B2B and B2C but any startups can apply to pitch.

Our friend and regular contributor Robin Block of the MitchelLake Group has recently advised us he is soon to be departing our shores and heading back to not so sunny London. The Techboard team would like to say a great big thanks to Robin for his friendship and support of Techboard over the last 4 months and for the great interviews that he has conducted for us.  We have published eleven interviews from Robin which have showcased some of Australia’s top and up and coming Startups (many of whom are performing well in the Techboard Rankings) as well as investors who are helping to power Australia’s future including with new approaches to investing, under Australia’s new Equity Crowdfunding legislation. Robin may be leaving but rest assured we will have plenty more interviews and other great content to bring to you in the coming months.
