Energising the Blockchain – Dr Jemma Green speaks with Techboard about the future of Power and Power Ledger’s historic Initial Coin Offering

In August this year, Power Ledger grasped everyone’s attention by raising $17 million in its the pre-sale of its Token Generation Event (TGE) or Initial Coin Offering (ICO) ahead of raising a total of $34million in its ICO which closed in October. For most of us, this raised a lot of questions… “What is an ICO? Why would someone want raise money using an ICO? And what’s a POWR token?” Fortunately, our Contributor Matthew Parker from MitchelLake was able to sit down with Dr Jemma Green, co-founder and Chair of Power Ledger to help us answer these questions. Power Ledger first came to prominence in Techboard’s Rankings back in August 2016 where it topped the ranking for 2 fortnights. This year PowerLedger topped the Techboard Ranking in August and has remained in the top five in September and October.

Keen readers of Techboard will know by now that our Sydney correspondent, Robin Block has moved on and is heading home to sunny London. While we will miss the interviews done by Robin, we have been joined by his colleague from MitchelLake, Matthew Parker. Techboard Company Traction Report October 2017

Every month after publishing the Techboard Ranking we publish “The Month in Australian Startup and Tech: Company Traction Report”. The Report contains all the milestones, Funding outcomes and News on Australian startups and young technology companies that we collect when doing our monthly ranking.

  • This month we have news mentions, milestones and Funding events for 267 Australian startups and tech companies. The companies are listed in the order in which they appeared in the October Techboard Ranking.
  • Since last month we’ve added a further 100+ companies – we’re now profiling 1,814 Australian companies.
  • Among other metrics, we captured 750 press mentions (globally) of Australian companies, 226 milestones, 46 funding milestones, over 28,000 tweets and 11,000 Facebook posts, over 300 iTunes apps and 250 Google Play apps, and employee counts at 1,170 companies.
  • Five of the top ten companies are ASX listed. 94 (or 5%) of our total companies are ASX listed. The top performing (share price wise) ASX company in October was Wangle Technologies, up 80%.
  • Four acquisitions during the month: REALas (ANZ Bank), Parkhound (Spacer), HomeHello (UrbanYou) and CreditorWatch (InfoTrack).

Our friend and regular contributor Robin Block of the MitchelLake Group has recently advised us he is soon to be departing our shores and heading back to not so sunny London.
