I believe every community should have its own TV channel. We are entering the era of collaborative video production, where ultra-niche programming will be co-created by communities. I call this narrowcasting and the company I founded, Vloggi, is at the very heart of this new wave.
With 2.5 billion high definition smartphones in the world, I realised you could turn anyone into your remote film crew. All we had to do was build the platform that enabled you to both crowdsource clips and also make compilations quickly.
My tech startup days started in Silicon Valley where I was part of the founding team of British interactive digital TV pioneer Static 2358 (later PlayJam). I went on to lead the editorial video unit at Microsoft UK's public relations company Text 100.
Previously I have been a leading aviation and tourism policy expert. Working with senior tourism industry executives, one of the key issues I constantly encountered was the need for video production on location at scale.
Prior to this I had over 10 years in aviation and travel journalism, including at Flight International, where I was the magazine's first political affairs correspondent covering European Union lawmakers in Brussels, as well as founding new media brands including flightglobal.com, Flight TV and Flight Podcasts. During this period, I became one of the first people to coin the term video blog, now shortened to vlogging. I am also an award-winning short film producer.
I am also currently a non-resident research fellow within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program of the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. An honours graduate in European studies and French from the UK's University of Derby, I am studying for an MBA in entrepreneurship. I studied too at the French Institut d'tudes Politiques political studies school in Rennes.
