Techboard is pleased to present its first Annual Funding Report, the most comprehensive annual funding report covering the Australian Startup and Young Tech Ecosystem ever produced. In this report we reveal that Australian startups and young tech companies secured over $3.5billion dollars of funding during the 2017/2018 financial year.
This report includes an overview of the year in Startup and Tech funding in Australia, including analysis of all funding events in the reports published for the financial year ending 30 June 2018. In preparing this Annual Report we did much more than take our reports for the previous three quarters and add in data for Q4. We went right back through the year, undertook significant additional research, had many funding events reported to us, removed some duplication between our previous reports. We actually found a significant amount of funding events we had not covered in previous reports.
The Techboard Report which provides in-depth analysis of 736 funding events, by Category, State and Funding Type can be accessed for no charge to Techboard Subscribers. We have also published a number of interactive charts that can also be accessed for free to subscribers.
Over the coming weeks we will be publishing a number of additional pieces providing further insight into Australian Startup and Tech Funding over 2017/18 and moving forward.
I would like to thank the Techboard Team and everyone who has helped us with this report. With the ongoing and continued support of the startup and tech community we hope to enable increased transparency and visibility of funding of Australia's startups and young tech companies, for the benefit of the sector.

Erratum
Since the publication of the Report, Techboard has discovered that a major deal which was included in the Report (a $50m investment round for fintech startup Spaceship in Q2 2017/18) did not in fact occur. This deal originally was reported in the press in November 2017 and included in our report for the December quarter. The story about this deal not taking place hit the press in April but was missed by Techboard in its news screening so was still included in the Annual Report. Techboard is screening for relevant stories on now over 2800 companies so it is probably inevitable that we will miss a key story occasionally. While we regret we missed this one, we are constantly working to improve our screening methodologies. We also rely on the community both to report deals to us but also to let us know when we have got it wrong or missed something.
