Techboard Startup Ranking #10

For the period ending 27 January 2016

Gig-booking platform Gigger tops this fortnight’s ranking following its successful launch earlier this month. The business which describes itself as Airbnb for live music allows bands to connect with venues online and get booked. It has already signed up bands and is seeing its first revenue coming in. The startup has featured widely across the startup and local mainstream press, and strong social media traction and nominations from the Techboard panel of experts have helped push it to the top of the scoreboard.

Founder Anthony Manning-Franklin attributes the positive media reception at least partly to getting his press releases checked by a professional. “Get someone who deals with this stuff on a daily basis to look at your press release before it goes out. I sent off a couple of drafts to a marketing & PR friend, who looked it over for me.”

It was a well-rehearsed launch, with a soft social media launch on the Friday giving the team a window over the weekend to fix any bugs, before going to press on the Monday.

“The focus moving forward is on getting everyone familiar with using the platform, and continuing to make it easier for bands to book gigs. We also want to develop the community aspect of the platform.”
