What the Doctor Said

Patients who understand and remember the discharge instructions given to them in the emergency department have a better chance of getting healthy again when they get home.

Dr Sarah Doyle worked as a junior doctor in the children's emergency department. She saw first-hand how in the midst of a stressful experience, many parents and carers left the emergency department without feeling confident about what the doctor said.

Helping to address this problem was the inspiration for our digital software application. It can be used by doctors to rapidly create personalised discharge instructions for patients, families and carers. The instructions are given as a print out and are also sent to the patient’s mobile phone.

We’ve just launched our application as part of a large research initiative at Perth Children’s Hospital. We are helping to provide discharge instructions to parents and carers bringing their child to the emergency department with symptoms of acute respiratory infection.

Our mission is to grow our innovation and improve health outcomes for patients in Australia and worldwide.
