The Elizabeth Quay precinct came to life on Monday the 6th June with Trendwise™ passively observing 26,954 visitors at the WA Day Festival.
This annual event, hosted by Celebrate WA and proudly sponsored by BHP Billiton, the Government of Western Australia, and Lotterywest, ran from 10am till 9pm, jam-packed with free, fun activities for all ages.
There were live music performances, skills sessions with sporting stars, animal petting zoos, food sampling, art opportunities and much more.
Celebrate WA utilised Inhouse Group’s award winning solution, Trendwise™ for the day to assist in understanding the offline behaviour of visitors who attended the festival.
Trendwise™ unobtrusive sensors were deployed in the main festival areas throughout Elizabeth Quay, including sports, music, kids, food, and history zones to not only understand visitor volumes and peak times but to recognise visitor traffic flow paths and hot spots.
The data clearly showed that the food and music zones, with headliners Jebediah, San Cisco and Ta-Ku, were by far the most popular places to be.
Who doesn’t love listening to some tunes from some of WA’s best artists whilst enjoying a burger?
The largest number of visitors were detected throughout the middle of the day with 12pm being the ultimate peak time.
Despite the chilly weather people stayed at the festival for an average visit of 88 minutes.
The data is presented to Celebrate WA in a visually appealing and insightful report. This includes visitor dwell times; hot spots, peak times, traffic flow paths and zone analysis.
The aim of the deployment was to provide event organisers with reliable data on the performance of the event to measure return on investment, assist with future planning and better serving their stakeholders.
Celebrate WA now has the opportunity to make data-driven decisions around investment, marketing, layouts, entertainment mix and timetables for next years WA Day festival.
