Astron is pleased to announce that RPM, a remote sensing web mapping application for monitoring minesite rehabilitation performance, has been chosen as a finalist for the 2016 Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) Environment Award.

The AMEC Environment Award reflects the increasing importance of managing environmental impacts of mineral mining and exploration projects. It is intended to raise the profile of companies who are developing or utilising innovative methods to achieve better long term environmental outcomes or management practices throughout the life of mineral exploration and mining projects. The award encompasses all aspects of environmental impacts including, land use, water management, community safety, on-going environmental impacts, mine closure and mine rehabilitation.

On being chosen as a finalist for the award Astron's Technical Director Julian Kruger acknowledged the value that tools like RPM can bring to the resource industry. "At the moment we are seeing really strong engagement from within the resource industry on how they approach their environmental management commitments. Of course all of our clients are looking for cost reductions, but most are also looking towards technology and innovation in order to optimise their monitoring and management approaches. The fact that an application like RPM can reduce monitoring costs, improve upon the quality of data, and unlock operational efficiencies via data driven insights is seen as a real win by our clients."

The winners of the 2016 AMEC Awards will be announced at the Awards Dinner on Thursday 8 December at the State Reception Centre, Kings Park, Western Australia.
