Announcement Content:

After realising something must be done about saving lives and reducing the devastating impact of serious crash injuries on our roads, the IMR Technologies team began designing Sentinel in 2011.

IMR’s founders realised there were key aspects of the emergency response process that could be improved, namely the speed and reliability of reporting. By reducing the amount of time taken to report and respond to a serious vehicle crash, victims would be able to receive treatment much sooner, minimising the chances of permanent injury or death. The team saw an opportunity to improve the incident response time by 50% by fitting vehicles with a device which automatically detects and alerts emergency services to the exact location and circumstances of a crash. This removes dependency on often unreliable mobile phone calls and replaces them with a robust safety system which ensures victims can be reached quickly, even if unconscious or incapacitated.

After five years of in-house development, IMR Technologies were awarded a patent for their core technology. They have recently completed their first capital placement which raised $1.3 million, to commercialise the Sentinel technology and begin selling into global markets. IMR have expanded their labs and team, moving into Technology Park, Bentley to finalise Sentinel’s global certification and develop distribution networks and global business partnerships.

In Europe and Australia, IMR have been in discussions with international car manufacturers, and aftermarket parts distributors. The new EU car safety mandate, dubbed eCall 112, requires every new vehicle sold in Europe has car accident alert systems like Sentinel. By introducing this technology in Europe, the European Union expects to save 2,500 lives annually and have annual cost savings to the community of around €32 billion (~A$48 billion) across the economy in accident related costs and is expected to have a similar impact to that of the introduction of seatbelts. Based on this data and IMR’s own research, similar results are expected in Australia, with the potential to save around 150 lives and A$3.2 billion [across the Australian economy] per year. IMR are in the process expanding into the UK and Germany to leverage the opportunity created by the eCall mandate and technology, which will drive sales growth.

The Sentinel system has been designed from the ground-up to fit to any vehicle, regardless of technology or age. Whilst Sentinel is ideal for vehicle manufacturers, Sentinel is just as important for Australian after-market passenger vehicles, off road, recreational, agricultural and freight industries.
IMR has so far received nearly 1,000 expressions of interest from drivers across Australia for early access to the Sentinel device. IMR Sentinel’s unique autonomous design solves the previous barriers of mission critical performance and widespread user uptake of alert systems. It does not rely on other technology such as mobile phones or vehicle systems to work, and requires no ongoing user costs once installed.

IMR Technologies was founded in Perth, Western Australia by Martyn Gilbert, a former Symbian-Nokia and Raytheon engineer and Dr Adam Boyt, a general surgeon with experience in trauma and emergency medicine.

Registrations of interest are currently open for first access to IMR Sentinel pre-sales. Release of the first units is slated for late 2017 and IMR welcomes any organisations who are interested in vehicle beta trials to get in touch.
