Gigger’s search engine lets anyone find and book more than 130,000 bands worldwide

Company Name: Gigger

As part of its mission to improve the careers of budding musicians, Gigger has unveiled a powerful new search feature. The new search feature allows anyone to search their entire database of over 120,000 bands worldwide. Users can then listen to any of the bands from within the search page, or venture into their profile to read biography, view the bands available dates, or even book them for a gig.

Founder Anthony Manning-Franklin explains why this feature could have a real impact on bands:

“Young bands inevitably have had a visibility issue. Where do they go when they’re ready for gigs? How do promoters discover they exist? Gigger gives the industry a definitive place to find every band. This means it will be easier to get booked for gigs, from your first slow to that make or break touring support slot. Now we can begin the first step of dismantling the inevitable nepotism that turns a local music scene into a game of who you know rather than a true meritocracy.”

Gigger’s search lets you hone in on a country, state, or city and search bands by genre. Making it easy to quickly see what bands are active in your city, or find supports for an upcoming tour. Gigger’s algorithm cleverly finds bands in genres, even when the band hasn’t filled out their genre properly.

Anthony Manning-Franklin

Currently developing a real-world analytics platform and helping people solve tough problems with web apps. In 2012 I founded Farugi to empower independent musicians by enabling them to control how they monetise their music. We did this by building a social music distribution platform. It was insanely fun and equally challenging. I developed technologies such as custom recommendation engines, real time social experiences incorporating news feeds, comments, and messaging. All of which worked alongside a dynamic music and merchandise marketplace populated by products that were listed and supplied by the artists themselves. Prior to launching Farugi, I had been working within the music industry for over 10 years, beginning as a performer and promoter but primarily as a sound engineer and producer. In 2007 I opened Midas Touch Studios and over the next 6 years I worked with artists such as Screaming Life, Michael Swann, The Red Paintings, Tempest Rising and many more. I’ve had my work aired on over 200 radio stations internationally.
