Astron is pleased to have been chosen as a finalist in the 2017 WA Innovator of the Year program, an awards program aimed at showcasing WA’s most innovative, entrepreneurial and creative businesses. Based on a selection process involving some of WA’s leading entrepreneurs and innovators, Astron’s ground breaking emapper geospatial tool has been chosen as one of four finalists for the South32 Designing for Excellence Award.

The emapper platform uses remote sensing data obtained from UAVs, manned aerial survey and satellites to perform landscape scale environmental monitoring. The first application for the platform is focused on evaluating the success of minesite rehabilitation performance.

In response to being selected as a finalist Astron’s Managing Director Julian Kruger noted the long path required to see the innovation process through to successful commercialisation.
“We started the journey with emapper nearly 5 years ago having recognised the opportunity that remote sensing technology will bring to environmental management” said Mr Kruger. “Now with the advent of UAV technology and lower cost satellite imagery our development vision is really starting to pay dividends. Winners of the 2017 WA Innovator of the Year awards will be announced on 1st November 2017.
