Have you ever wondered why you prefer using a tablet over clicking on a mouse on your computer?

Company Name: Tap Into Safety

Announcement Date: 02/09/2016
Announcement Category: Other
Announcement Content:

It’s the tactile engagement with the tablet that research shows evokes an emotional response.

It’s the sense of touch that is being used here to connect the content directly to the brain. This is a very interesting finding especially for those working with mobile devices for marketing and entertainment. Emotional connection with the content is what all marketers dream of. Connection with the product can influence the person to make the purchase.

But it is not too often that we link emotional connection to training, unless you cite the smoking or traffic incident campaigns that are intended to shock the viewer. For training providers, this ‘connection’ to the content is crucial for knowledge retention. This connection can change the way a person behaves and therefore can take training content directly into behavioural change. This is critical particularly when training in highly hazardous or life threatening situations.

So if tactile interaction with training content can increase knowledge retention then why aren’t we embracing training delivered on tablets more? If by simply using your fingers to select responses and engage with the training content we commit more to memory then why are we continuing to use death by power point?

We are following this research closely and will review the academic papers on this topic as they are published. If you’d like receive summaries of research papers, sign up for our newsletter.
