Stephen became a member of Anglo American plc’s Group Management Committee in January 2017 and was appointed to the Board as Finance Director in April 2017. He is also a non-executive director of De Beers. He was appointed as an independent non-executive director of BAE Systems plc on 1 June 2019.
Stephen has more than 16 years of public company director experience and 30 years of financial and commercial experience in the mining, oil and gas, and utilities industries. Before joining Anglo American, Stephen served as CFO and an executive director of Fortescue Metals Group from 2010 to 2016. Prior to that, he held the positions of Managing Director and CEO of Southern Cross Electrical Engineering Ltd and was CFO of Alinta Ltd. Until January 2017 he served as a non-executive director of Cedar Woods Properties Ltd.
Stephen has a Bachelor of Business from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Company Secretarial Practice. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Member of the Governance Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
