A very close relative of the famous Chinese variety of Cordyceps Ophiocordyceps sinensis, a parasitic fungus with an insect larvae host. It is the world's most valuable natural medicine, known in traditional Chinese medicine. Prices for the fungus have increased dramatically over the last decade. Overharvesting and warmer weather on the Himalayan Plateau have raised concerns for the long term sustainability of the species. |
