Last week the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) launched its Safety Training Snaps - built by Tap into Safety. Twenty-one workers from the Road Marine Services (RMS) asphalt crew navigated through a typical road laying worksite using a simulated environment loaded onto tablets.
The simulated, gamified training methodology has been proven in testing to reduce workplace injuries by at least 10%.
For some workers, it was their first time on an iPad, but they quickly got the hang of the software. Their eagle eyes spotted a lack of cones to demarcate the site correctly.
The team questioned and criticised the scene - exactly what our methodology encourages. Having closed the tablets the workers immediately started work in an environment with which they were already “virtually familiar” from the training modules.
Competition is the foundation of improvement in human beings. The gaming techniques used within the training module had the workers developing a constructive competitive spirit, with comments of “I’ll get you next time mate!” as they compared each other’s scores.
What better way to keep the safety message top of mind?
AAPA’s Director of Training & Knowledge Tanja Conners says the launch and first field test of the AAPA Safety Training Snaps was a complete success.
RMS is now looking to extend the AAPA Safety Training Snaps to more teams across the organisation.
We at Tap into Safety are thrilled with this feedback and are looking forward to building more specialised training for the road industry.

About Tap Into Safety:
Tap into Safety is on a mission to keep workers physically and mentally safe. We have two solutions on the Platform that are available across smart devices and on the web.
The safety training solution uses our signature 360/180 degree panoramic scenarios to deliver a 'walk through' of the users workplace that they work within to learn about how to work safely in their environment. We also draw on gaming techniques, animation, images and audio to deliver engaging training that has seen our customers achieve a drop in their workplace injury rates by at least 10%.
Our early intervention mental health solution that has been designed for business to provide training on topics that impact mental health, e.g. change and burnout. IEmployees are 'one click' away from help and support. Data shows business staff groups in early mental health decline. This information has not been made available to business in the past and using this data they can tailor their well-being programmes to those who need it most.
Both solutions produce comprehensive visual reports to show the gaps in safety knowledge and the users who are experiencing issues with their wellbeing. The platform is cost effective and suited to meet the budgetary constraints of all businesses as it is supported by a per use credit model with no lock in contracts, annual license or subscription fees.
