Gigger Takes On Its First Intern

Company Name: Gigger

Announcement Date: 01/04/2016
Announcement Category: Team Update
Announcement Content:

At Gigger we had been looking for ways to find additional developers and speed up Gigger's releases. In Perth, there aren't many developers with an appetite for startups, and crossover between developer and music industry experience is even smaller (Hint, there's two of them).

Instead we decided to look for someone who has a passion for the music industry, a vision for Gigger, coupled with the curiosity and passion for learning required to become an amazing developer.

Given that this could essentially be our first hire, and if successful will shape the entire future of the company more than any subsequent hiring decision, we took the process pretty seriously. We developed hiring guidelines, a process mirroring Google's, and a set of interview questions to measure not how knowledgable a person is about coding, but to expose their learning processes.

One candidate stood out amongst the strong applications we had; Lucy is a research scientist and an active part of the music industry. Having recently relocated to Perth, she's already playing in and managing a band, booking successful and profitable gigs, and taking on production roles for other artists.

Anthony Manning-Franklin

Currently developing a real-world analytics platform and helping people solve tough problems with web apps. In 2012 I founded Farugi to empower independent musicians by enabling them to control how they monetise their music. We did this by building a social music distribution platform. It was insanely fun and equally challenging. I developed technologies such as custom recommendation engines, real time social experiences incorporating news feeds, comments, and messaging. All of which worked alongside a dynamic music and merchandise marketplace populated by products that were listed and supplied by the artists themselves. Prior to launching Farugi, I had been working within the music industry for over 10 years, beginning as a performer and promoter but primarily as a sound engineer and producer. In 2007 I opened Midas Touch Studios and over the next 6 years I worked with artists such as Screaming Life, Michael Swann, The Red Paintings, Tempest Rising and many more. I’ve had my work aired on over 200 radio stations internationally.
